WEDGE BASE BOBBING HEADS

This Blog entry was inspired by the amazing collection of our good friend Wayne Stiles. Wayne has one of the most extensive collections of the Baseball Wedge base series dolls in the hobby. The series is from the early 70's and is generally considered the last of the "Golden Era". This eries were really the last of the paper mache composition dolls. The series (although very beautiful) has not been a favorite of collectors. There are no mascot dolls in the series and not all the teams were represented. Wayne's collection includes several teams that we did not know existed as well as several oddball variations. The Philadelphia Phillies was not known to us until several years ago and has commanded huge auction prices. One word of caution about the Houston Astros from this series. Many collectors make the mistake of thinking this is the rare Gold base "Shooting Star" doll because of the gold base and color of the hat. It is actually a very common doll.
