ITPC's FALL 2010 SPORTS MEMORABILIA AUCTION
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/13/2010
This incredibly rare figural ash tray is of the Boston Red Sox and was issued in the early 60's. The statue was made by a Japanese company which partnered with the cult artist Fred Kail. Unfortunately, the partnership did not fair well and Mr. Kail saw very little of the proceeds. The company issued a series of NFL and College football statues but also were responsible for the limited issue of Major League baseball statues. In our over 25 years in the hobby, we know of less than 10 of these statues/ashtrays to still exist.
The statue is in the same likeness of the Joe Jolter football players. He has a big pot belly and pug nose. The statue stands on a ceramic ash tray with decaled lettering of the team name on two sides. It's about 9" tall and the player wears a Boston Red Sox uniform. There is some cracking on the back of the ashtray, but this does not effect its appearance when displayed. It's a wonderful piece that will compliment any figural or baseball collection.
