ITPC's HOLIDAY 2016 SPORTS MEMORABILIA AUCTION
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/3/2016
For most of the 20th Century, Mel Ott was the closest thing to Babe Ruth the National League had seen, racking up 511 home runs and 1,160 RBI in his 22 seasons with the New York Giants, the last six as a player-manager. The signature displays in a 5-6 range on the sweet spot of this single-signed baseball - a Worth Official League model. The ball has some light toning, but its definitely a keeper. From 1928-45, Ott led the Giants in home runs; The 18-season consecutive dominance being a record as no other player has ever led his team in more consecutive years in a single Triple Crown category. In addition, he is one of only five National League players in history to record 100+ RBI in eight consecutive seasons (later matched by Willie Mays, Chipper Jones, Sammy Sosa and Albert Pujols. The Hall of Famer and 12-time All-Star was both the youngest player to hit 100 home runs and the first National Leaguer to hit 500 roundtrippers. It comes with an LOA from (JSA) James Spence Authentication.
