ITPC FALL 2014 SPORTS MEMORABILIA AUCTION
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/20/2014
As of December 13, 1942, in fact, 310 veterans of the NFL had offered their services to the military effort.a tally so claimed on the cover of this Championship program. And while their rosters had been somewhat depleted, the Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins were prepared this day to decide the league's best team. Yet in gridiron uniforms, Sid Luckman and Sammy Baugh would lead these adversaries in the championship contest staged in Washington's Griffith Stadium. This game had special import for both teams. The Bears were undefeated in the '42 regular season, and necessarily hoped to drive their perfect record through the championship. The Skins had a sparkling 10-1 record that season, but for the Washington eleven, there was a "score" to settle. Two years earlier, these two teams met for the NFL Championship and the Bears utterly humiliated the Redskins, 73-0. And to a degree, that 1940 drubbing was avenged as Washington won the '42 title, 14-6, thereby reclaiming a measure of respectability and denying the Bears a perfect season. The program has a few condition issues. Theres some staining on the upper edges of the cover. Theres some tape thats melted on the back at the spine as well as a spine split that measures about 3" between the staples. Its in Fr-GD condition.
