Rare souvenir from 1933 is a wooden baseball bat, measuring 25 inches long that has a dark brown patina with gilt gold lettering “Brooklyn BBC, Golden Jubilee, May 12, 1883-May 12, 1933.” The bat was distributed in 1933 to celebrate the 50 Year Anniversary of the Brooklyn Dodgers, one of the oldest and most storied teams in baseball. The Dodgers was originally formed as a team in 1883 as the Brooklyn Grays (member of the Inter-State Association of Professional Baseball Clubs) and played its first home game at Washington Park, NYC on May 12, 1883 against a team from Trenton, New Jersey. In 1890 the team moved to the National League and won the 1890 NL Championship after winning the 1889 AA championship the year before. In 1891 the team moved to Eastern Park and became known as the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers which was soon shortened to the Brooklyn Dodgers. During this time the team enjoyed many nicknames; the Grooms, the Bridegrooms, the Superbas and the Robins. In 1913 the beloved Dodgers moved to the newly built Ebbets Field which remained their home until they moved to the West Coast in 1957.
