ITPC's 2018 SUMMER ALL VINTAGE PENNANT AUCTION
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/15/2018
This pennant would have been sold on site at the 1976 Heavyweight Championship fight between Muhammad Ali and the challenger Jeanne Pierre Coopman. It has a rounded tip and measures 25" long and in near mint condition.
*Contested at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ali’s fifth round knockout of Coopman also marked his fifth successful heavyweight title defense. In an effort to brush off the pre-match punditry, Coopman’s trainer, Charles de Jager, had claimed that the Belgian would be immune from Ali’s brilliant linguistic psych-outs by virtue of not understanding them. Unfortunately for Coopman, the language barrier proved an unsuccessful deterrent to the barrage of thunderous right hooks executed squarely upon his exposed flank.
