We are privledged to have been consigned several items to our auction by famed sports artist Fred Kail. These items come from his personal collection and have not been seen by the general public since their creation close to 50 years ago. This Cleveland Browns statue is an "artist proof" that was sculpted in 1960 for possible distribution in 1962. It was a project led by Mr. Kail in conjunction with Andy Nelson and Bobby Boyd of the Baltimore Colts. They would eventually form a company called Sports Action Figures to produce these figures to be mounted on desk sets and ashtrays in college uniforms. Several hundred were created, hand painted and sold throughout the country- but the prime objective was to acquire an NFL license. Artist Proofs were made up of various NFL teams to show to prospective financial backers, but sadly the venture did not attract the essential finances to continue. Only a few of these artist proofs survived, including this Cleveland Brown mounted on a wood base.

The statue depicts a generic running back wearing a Browns uniform smashing through the line. The statue itself measures 5" long and 4.5" tall. It is mounted with a screw and nut to a wooden base. There are a couple of minor scuffs, but overall this chalkware beauty is in excellent plus condition. The piece has been signed by Mr Kail on the bottom of the base. It is truly a "one of a kind" piece. A must have for any fan of the NFL, but more importantly fans of the works of Fred Kail.
