CHICAGO BEARS "CARTER- HOFFMAN" MASCOT STATUE

If you've followed our auctions or this Blog, you know that we are huge fans of the Carter-Hoffman wood carved mascot statues of the 50's. We have bought & sold hundreds of them and until this point, we have only handled their incredible college mascot series. We've had a selection of many different schools from major colleges to obscure smaller schools. These statues have come in a variety of sizes with the most common being the standard 5" statue. We also know that Carter-Hoffman designed and sold mascots to a number of high schools as well as making generic animal statues. We've heard rumors of a statue designed for the Cleveland Indians, but had never actually seen any professional team mascots. That is until we received a recent consignment for our Spring 2010 auction.

We were shocked when we got the call about a large sized Chicago Bears Carter-Hoffman(see picture above). It is 8" tall and almost 11" long. It has the team name emblazoned on both sides. The Carter-Hoffman stamp is under one of the feet. Since we have never seen another, we can only speculate that this may have been designed as a prototype or salesman's sample to try to sell the concept to NFL teams. Can you imagine what other NFL team mascots would look like(I.e. Eagles, Lions, Cardinals, Browns etc..)? It is truly a magnificent piece and it may be a one of a kind item.

This item is one of the feature items of our Spring 2010 auction. It is item #49. If you are a collector of Carter-Hoffman, the Chicago Bears or figural sports memorabilia- this one would surely make a fine addition to any collection.
